I am very interested in this beautiful gardening. I would like to learn about, do it and smell the roses. Where I can I learn this and get involved, whatever it takes?
Also I would like to learn all about growing trees inside house…this is my dream.
Please link me or whatever it takes..
Thanks
Joanna
There is a web site called www.windowbox.com specializing among other things in container gardening for decks, terraces and rooftops. It provides useful information on every facet of container gardening from types of containers to appropriate plants, designs and maintenance. You may find the information that you’re looking for. Also, try Botanical Gardens sites such as www.MOBOT.com or your local Extension Office for additional help on the types of plants you would like to grow. These sites can also link you to other sites.
As far as growing a tree inside the house, more information is needed.
Good luck , I hope you will experience the joys of gardening for many years to come.

We have a hanging basket filled with Petunias in Portland, Or. some tiny, long, brown larva have appeared in the underside of the blooms and are hatching tiny black bugs that bite, are eating the blooms & leaves, and leave a shiny residue. Any idea what they are and how to get rid of them?

You may have flea beetles. The legless gray grubs feed on the undersides of leaves and the adults chew pinhead sized holes in the leaves that expand to larger brownish areas. The adults jump like fleas but are not related to them. If they are flea beetles try spraying with a carbaryl (Sevin), diazinon or pyrethrin. Keep the spray away from the blossoms to avoid killing beneficial pollen-feeding insects.

Could you tell me the proper way to save tender bulbs like Elephant Ear? Do you wait for 1st frost (I’m in MD) to kill the greenery, or do you cut it all back and lift them before then ? (which would be heartbreaking to do) Thanks.
