Propagating Kalanchoe
Propagating Kalanchoe
I would love to propagate my kalanchoe plant. What is the best way to do so and how often should I water the repotted clipping?
To propagate your kalanchoe, take 4-6 inch cuttings, remove the lower leaves so you end up with a stem 2-3″ long. Place the cutting on a counter for 1-2 days so that it can form a callus. Plant in a 3 inch pot filled with a cactus type soil (free- draining) and water. Insert the cutting, so the leaves are just above the soil surface. Rooting should take 2-3 weeks. Once rooted plant in 3-4 inch pots and water in well. Kalanchoe should be kept on the dry side, to avoid root rot. Water when to top 2″ of soil are dry. You can also root them in water.

Can I take cuttings from a plant that has buds? It is getting ready go bloom but looks terrible because all the bottom leaves have fallen off. The bare stems are getting air roots at the nodes.
I have a kalanchoe blossinfeldiana, but the stems seem to dry up and start to grow roots. Is this normal for the plant
Hi.
Mine is more of a comment. I have 2 of these plants. One my 10 yr old bought when it was very tiny.
It was rather droopy and had some leaves that were ready to be removed(or so I thougt)
I pruned the plant and as I have a bad habit of doing, I left the leaves in the bottom of the pot. My thinking in this was to provide the plant with a little extra natural nutrients and layer for holding in moisture a little longer. I’ve had some great success with this practice in my outside garden. Anyways, after a while I realized that the leaf/stem cuttings were not dying or drying up. In fact they looked better. I picked one up and it had little roots all along the stem.
So In my experience, they are very easy to progagate. Just cut a leaf or leaf with stem and set on top of the potting soil in the mother plants pot. It hasn’t filled out yet, but they are growing. Very hardy plant indeed.
It’s amazing what you find out by accident 🙂
I was given a kalanchoe as a gift. It used to be beautiful. Now it has brown hard “trunks” and branches that are a foot long with some leAves on the ends. Can I do anything to revive this plant?
Hi , i’ve got a few kalanchoes that id like to propagate . Would it be ok if i did it when the plant is flowering or is it pointless to try? Please help!
I bought 3 Kalanchoe plants a few weeks ago. It is blooming beautiful orange flowers but the leaves are wilting and falling off. What could be the reason this is happening??
Thanks.

I see above you mentioned the plant can be rooted in water. Do I need to let the cutting dry for a couple days first? What is the best way to go about rooting the plant in water?
